9 questions you must ask prior to hiring contractor.
August 22, 2022
For your waterproofing, painting & repair job of your property.
There is an abundance of painting, waterproofing and repair contractors in the market. But many of them are not very reliable. They will not be able to respond to your calls and will give excuses when they can not make it on time. They will be unreliable, hard to get in touch with and will not perform the repair in the way they had promised. To ensure that you are hiring a contractor that you can trust, you need to ask them several questions. This blog will look at some of the questions you need to ask :-
- Process of investigating problem:
Before hiring contractor for your repair job check whether he could identify and analyse the problem. Also, by which process he will investigate it and find a solution. Will there be any step-by-step method of investigation going to be followed for diagnosis? If yes, what is it?
- Finding root cause by scientific method:
This point should be included in the step-by-step diagnosis which will be done by contractor. To identify the exact source of the leakage or to find root cause of the problem he can use instrument like thermal camera which will tell the difference between temperatures by which we get to know the flow of water through the walls. Also, he can use moisture meter to detect moisture content. Anyhow finding root cause is important to get completely rid of that problem.
- Logical solution:
After all the inspection by using scientific tools, you must check whether he covered all the affected areas i.e., all negative and positive sides of the building and the delivered solution is covering all the points or not. Also, the solution given must be logically sound according to the site conditions and weather situations.
- Basic information about the agency:
You should ask him about his agency, i.e. how many people are working with him? In which field they have their expertise? How many labours he has with him for different types of works? Can he be able to arrange more number of labours if necessary?
- Association with industry expert:
There is possibility that the treatment designed for the given project haven’t performed by him or his team before. So, in that case he needs to take help from industry experts. He needs to access knowledge by researching on it, by finding labours who have done that type of work before. He needs to find out the details about the material which is going to be used.
- Over-promises and fake warranties:
You must be aware that the solutions given by him are practical by all aspects as we discussed before. Is he overpromising just to convince you for the given treatment which is practically impossible? The most important thing which should be taken into consideration is the warranty. You should take care that each and every treatment he is giving for the building must have warranty and reassure that he is also taking responsibility for the same
- Profitable solutions:
The solutions given by the contractor should be based on the visual inspection he has done on site or if necessary using scientific tools. i.e. concluding observations or thermal report considering client’s requirement. You should be aware that, is he trying to convince you for the treatment which is profitable for him and not you.
- Warranted job vs maintenance job:
After completion of the work the contractor can take responsibility of his work in two ways. First by giving warranty for particular years, by which, in the given warranty period he should take responsibility for all the repair work. Second, by giving yearly or monthly maintenance job to check whether the treatment given is suited for the structure or is there any leakage in the treated area.
- Google reviews:
Last but not the least, you can check everything about his agency on google where you will get to know everything. You can check his google reviews if any. Also can check ratings given by the previous customers. There must be comments or videos where customers have told about their experience with his agency and his work quality which will help you to trust him better.
